Considered to be one of the most popular and notable squares in Rome, Piazza Venezia is often referred to as the centre of the city, as many of the major roads converge here. While surrounded by monumental structures and grand architecture, Piazza Venezia is dominated by the larger than life, and equally imposing, Vittoriano monument (also called, Altare della Patria), which is dedicated to the kings of the first king of Italy Victor Emmanuel II. Piazza Venezia extends a view of the historic centre of Rome with the famous shopping roads of the Via del Corso extending out from its middle, with the Roman Forum off to the side, and Capitoline Hill also nearby. As a major thoroughfare used by pedestrians of all styles and affiliations, it serves as a transportation intersection, as well as an actual venue, a bridge standing at the intersection of antiquity and the present.
Piazza Venezia is recognized as the central hub of Rome. There is a large, important monument, the Vittoriano, and, too, it is the center of all major roads in Rome.
