San Diego Model Railroad Museum

The San Diego Model Railroad Museum is in the Casa de Balboa building in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. It serves as a vibrant tribute to the legacy of railroading and the art of model engineering. It was established in 1982 and spread around 27,000 square feet. This museum preserves the heritage of railroading and represents the California railroads and holds the history of model railroading. Its vision is to educate the public in the many different aspects of railroading. It includes the Toy Train Gallery and the Erwin Welsch Research Library has around 10,000 books and 15,000 photographs. It features four local railroad clubs, those are San Diego Model Railroad Association, the La Mesa Model Railroad Club, the San Diego Society of N Scale and the San Diego 3-Railers. These clubs, operating as nonprofit organizations, are responsible for the design, construction, and operation of the museum's various layouts.
